Stormy weather at Clearwell Castle with rainclouds adding a dramatic touch to the majestic venue

As a professional wedding photographer in Somerset, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful moments, but Abbie and Jordan’s wedding at Clearwell Castle was one to remember. This was my final wedding of 2024, and while Storm Darragh brought its challenges, the day was nothing short of magical.

Nestled in the heart of the Forest of Dean, Clearwell Castle is a dream venue for any couple. Its grandeur, combined with intimate charm, makes it a photographer’s delight. While the storm limited outdoor photography, the castle’s interiors provided a stunning backdrop for capturing Abbie and Jordan’s love story.

The day began in the cosy Keepers Cottage, where Abbie and her bridal party were getting ready. The atmosphere was warm and joyful, filled with laughter and a touch of anticipation. The soft morning light filtered through the windows, creating a perfect setting to document those precious pre-wedding moments. Abbie’s elegant dress and delicate details were beautifully complemented by the cottage’s rustic charm.

Despite the relentless rain and wind outside, the ceremony inside the castle’s grand ballroom was nothing short of spectacular. The space, with its high ceilings and intricate décor, created an ethereal setting. Jordan’s expression as Abbie walked down the aisle was a moment I’ll never forget. These are the fleeting emotions I live to capture – the unguarded joy, the quiet tears, and the palpable love.

The rest of the day unfolded seamlessly within the castle’s walls. The storm might have kept us indoors, but it also brought a sense of coziness and intimacy. The castle’s warm lighting and grand architecture provided an incredible canvas for their wedding portraits. One of my favourite shots was of Abbie and Jordan in the old chapel, framed by the stainglass windows and soft glow of warm interior lighting.

The reception was a lively celebration filled with heartfelt speeches and energetic dancing. Abbie and Jordan’s first dance in the cellar was magical, with their friends and family cheering them on. The storm outside only heightened the sense of togetherness and warmth within. We did manage to brave the elements at one point, through me setting up the equipment needed beforehand, so that we spent as little time outside as possible. A truly romantic moment that I am sure the couple appreciated doing as it’s a most have photograph at the Castle (see above image under the archway).

As the day came to a close, I couldn’t help but reflect on what a privilege it was to be part of this journey. Despite Storm Darragh’s attempts to disrupt the day, Abbie and Jordan’s love shone brightly, making every moment picture-perfect.

To Abbie and Jordan, thank you for trusting me to capture your special day. Clearwell Castle provided the perfect setting for your beautiful story, and I’m honoured to have been a part of it. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness and love!

Looking back at this final wedding of 2024, it serves as a reminder that love conquers all, even stormy skies. Weddings like this reinforce why I’m so passionate about photography – every moment, every emotion, and every detail tells a unique story. Abbie and Jordan’s day at Clearwell Castle will remain etched in my memory as a testament to the enduring power of love and the beauty of capturing it.
