As a Somerset wedding photographer, capturing Brian and Josie’s wedding at Clifton Observatory was an absolute joy. This historic venue, with its stunning views and unique charm, provided the perfect backdrop for their special day, blending urban elegance with timeless romance.

Bridal Preparations: A Modern Bristol Setting

The day began in a sleek, modern Airbnb flat in Bristol, where Josie and her bridal party prepared for the celebration ahead. The flat’s contemporary design, with its minimalist aesthetic and large windows, offered a serene yet stylish atmosphere. Natural light flooded the space, making it a photographer’s dream. I focused on capturing the small, intimate moments—Josie’s mother gently hanging up her dress, her sister laughing as they applied the final touches to their makeup, and the quiet moments of reflection as Josie took in the day ahead. The morning was filled with a warm, joyful energy that set the tone for the rest of the day.

The Ceremony: Clifton Observatory’s Panoramic Views

Brian and Josie chose Clifton Observatory for their ceremony, and it’s easy to see why. This iconic Bristol landmark, perched high above the Avon Gorge, offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across the city and beyond. The Clifton Suspension Bridge, with its majestic presence, added a dramatic touch to the setting.

The ceremony took place in the Observatory’s Lantern Room, an intimate space filled with soft natural light. The room’s simplicity allowed the couple’s love and connection to shine through. As they exchanged vows, the emotion was palpable—tears of joy, heartfelt smiles, and the quiet moments of understanding shared between two people deeply in love.

After the ceremony, we took advantage of the stunning surroundings for portraits. The Observatory’s rooftop offered unparalleled views of the suspension bridge and the city skyline, making it an incredible backdrop for capturing Brian and Josie’s first moments as a married couple.

A Celebration to Remember

Following the ceremony, the celebration continued with a lively reception back inside the observatory. The couple’s choice of décor blended seamlessly with the Observatory’s historic charm, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where guests could relax and enjoy the festivities.

From heartfelt speeches to a packed dance floor, the reception was a true reflection of Brian and Josie’s vibrant personalities. Couple’s photos were enjoyed around the Clifton Suspension Bridge and although the sun did not appear, it was a lovely moment for the two to escape the party and enjoy some quiet time to themselves surrounded by steep history.
