Hestercombe House and Gardens Orangery at night

As a Somerset wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of documenting many beautiful weddings, but Emily and James’s day at Hestercombe was truly exceptional. With the stunning Hestercombe Gardens as their backdrop and a day filled with love and joy, this wedding was a dream to capture.

Getting Ready: A Tale of Two Locations

The day began with bridal preparations at Emily’s family home, where the excitement and anticipation were palpable. The house was filled with warmth, laughter, and a few happy tears as Emily, surrounded by her family, got ready for the big day. The personal touches of home—the familiar surroundings and sentimental items—made these moments even more special. The morning light streaming through the windows provided the perfect setting for capturing these intimate, candid moments.

Meanwhile, James and his groomsmen were preparing at Mill Meadow Holiday Lodges, a short drive away. The serene setting of the lodges, nestled in the Somerset countryside, offered a peaceful start to the day. The rustic charm of the lodges combined with the camaraderie of his family made for some great shots as they suited up and shared a few laughs before heading to the venue.

The Ceremony: A Magical Moment at Hestercombe

The ceremony took place in the breath-taking Orangery at Hestercombe, a space that exudes timeless elegance. As Emily walked down the aisle, framed by the classical architecture and flooded with natural light, the room was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and happiness. James’s face lit up the moment he saw Emily, a moment that I was fortunate to capture. The ceremony was both heartfelt and joyful, with personal vows that brought smiles and a few tears to all in attendance.

Exploring the Gardens: Capturing the Romance

After the ceremony, the confetti throw, and a lot of mingling, we ventured into Hestercombe’s stunning gardens for the couple’s portraits. Hestercombe’s blend of Georgian landscape design and Victorian formal gardens provides a diverse range of settings, each offering something unique. From the grandeur of the lakeside to the intimacy of hidden pathways, Emily and James were a joy to photograph as they shared quiet moments together. We also ventured out after the speeches for the late afternoon light, soft and golden, which added a touch of magic to these portraits, creating images that perfectly encapsulate their love.

The Reception: A Celebration to Remember

The reception took place in the charming Bampfylde Hall, where guests were treated to a delicious meal and heartfelt speeches. The hall’s rustic stone walls and high beams provided a cosy yet elegant atmosphere, perfect for an evening of celebration. The couple’s first dance, surrounded by friends and family, was a highlight of the evening, and the joy on their faces was contagious.

A Day to Remember

Emily and James’s wedding at Hestercombe was a day filled with beauty, emotion, and unforgettable moments. It was an honor to capture their love story in such a stunning setting. Hestercombe is truly a gem among Somerset wedding venues, offering endless opportunities for beautiful photography.

If you’re planning your wedding at Hestercombe or elsewhere in Somerset, I’d love to help document your special day.
