My Passion for Wedding Photography

Hey, I’m James Clarke - a Somerset based Wedding Photographer who loves to take modern and documentary style wedding photographs throughout the UK and beyond. In this blog post, I thought it would be best to tell you a little bit about myself and what inspired me and why I love wedding photography. As I’ll be finding out your story as I capture your day, it’s only right I share this blog with you.

Since I was a child, I have always carried a camera in my hands. Whether it be a wind-up camera with the classic holiday pics, or disastrous selfies, or it being a cam-recorder taking clips whilst swimming abroad.. I absolutely loved sharing my life with whoever I could, but I always kept this passion running in the background whilst I chased my dream to be the best I could in the pool, or on the pool deck as a coach.

When COVID came along and we came out the other side of it, I decided that this was the one chance I had at pursuing my passion for photography full-time. With a very supportive wife and now Dad to two amazing girls, I was free and have never looked back.

Inspired Somerset Wedding Photographer James Clarke

What inspired me to be a wedding photographer and what is important to me?

So, I was inspired to get in to wedding photography funnily enough by my own wedding photographer and then also seeing the photographer at work at my sisters wedding. I quickly got a few bookings from friends and realised soon after that seeing the joy of two people tying the knot on their special day, and taking their photos, would never get tiring.

I absolutely love being able to tell the story of the day, shed a few tears at the speeches, and leave the day feeling like I’ve known the couple for years, not just a day. This is what is important to me. I get so attached to the day itself and photographing every little detail that the couple wants. I also get to know everyone’s names as quickly as possible (comes from my coaching days) and by the end of the day, I just feel part of it.

Building such a connection with a couple is really integral to what I do. It ultimately helps the couple feel relaxed and happy with the whole process, not just on the wedding day itself. If I can make a couple feel more comfortable, then the couple is more likely to feel comfortable in front of the camera.

I love what I do and here are the reasons why…

The Love of Photography & Taking Photos

Why I love doing this?

I’ve probably mentioned this above, but ultimately I LOVE taking photos. I also love being able to share photos with couples, brands, family and friends and seeing their reactions and feedback. It gives me a massive kick. It also means a lot to me, to be a part of your big day. It takes a lot to book a stranger and welcome them in on your biggest day of your journey as a couple, so it means the world to me and I hope that from the beginning I can put you at ease.

If Not Weddings Then Sports Photography

If I am not at weddings, I do a lot of photography in the sports industry, so there is never a day I am not taking photographs. It’s my passion and I feel lucky to do what I do. I hope I can share this enthusiasm with you on your big day.

Book Your Wedding Photographer Early!…..Avoid Any Disappointment

Ultimately, by booking with me as your wedding photographer, you are hiring someone with a dedication for their craft and wants best for you on your wedding day. I am fun, sometimes a little crazy, but professional in every sense. Working throughout the UK, I love what I do and I hope this blog has shed a little light in to my world as a photographer.
